Era of crude oil theft over, culprits will be prosecuted — Doguwa.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Crude Oil Thefts, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has stated that the government will no longer tolerate sabotage in the downstream sector.

Doguwa, the former majority leader of the lower chamber, insisted that the era of oil theft is over and warned that culprits would henceforth face the full wrath of the law.

In a statement signed by the Kano-born parliamentarian and made available to journalists on Friday, Doguwa stressed that the Bola Tinubu-led administration can no longer afford to be mired in global indebtedness due to economic sabotage crippling the downstream sector.

He said, “We cannot in any way afford to allow the Tinubu/APC-led government to continue wallowing in global borrowing as a result of consequential leakages in the production cycle of the oil and gas sector.”

The ranking legislator, representing Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State, explained that the unfortunate act of oil theft ravaging the Niger Delta, caused by youth restiveness, is unacceptable.

He noted that the vandalization of critical infrastructure by vandals and criminal activities in the creeks must stop for the nation to meet the international target of over 2 million barrels of crude per day.

Doguwa hinted that the committee was mandated by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, to unearth the remote and immediate causes of these devastating economic challenges within the oil and gas sector of the national economy.

“The committee vows to do all it takes to save the present Tinubu-led administration from these unfortunate happenings in the oil-producing areas. We will ensure that the committee brings the culprits and their political cohorts to book.

“The attendant consequences of these dastardly crimes against the economy will obviously not allow our economy to breathe. President Tinubu’s commitment and determination to bring prosperity and economic well-being to our people are non-negotiable, by whatever guise.

“We cannot in any way afford to allow our Tinubu/APC-led government to continue wallowing in global borrowing as a result of consequential leakages in the production cycle of the oil and gas sector.

“Largely caused by youth restiveness and the unacceptable vandalization of our critical infrastructure by vandals and criminals in the creeks,” Doguwa said.
