Adetele emerges interim Lagos chairman

The Iyaloja-General, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, has resolved the crisis between the Lagos State Butchers Association and the National Butchers Union of Nigeria as Shola Adetele has been appointed as the new Interim Chairman of the Lagos branch of the national body.

Adetele, who expressed his commitment to fostering an inclusive administration that prioritises the welfare of all members as well as collaborating closely with the national body of the union, also extended heartfelt gratitude to Tinubu-Ojo for her wisdom and motherly guidance, which was instrumental in resolving the protracted leadership crisis within the union.

His appointment follows the resolution of a conflict that had plagued the organisation, marked by the failed attempts of the faction led by the immediate past state Chairman, Bamidele Kazeem, to withdraw from the national body.

Tinubu-Ojo, during a meeting on Monday, facilitated a truce between the warring factions — one led by Kazeem, who sought independence from the national body, and the other faction, which remained committed to its affiliation as outlined in the union’s constitution.

The meeting involved the union’s National President, John Adun, among other stakeholders in the national and state chapters of the union.

The Iyaloja-General, after listening to the viewpoints of various representatives involved in the crisis, urged them to maintain peace.

She said: “Since the state body pledged allegiance to the national body and was inaugurated by the same, the Kazeem group should embrace peace and work collaboratively with the national body.

She, therefore, cautioned against greed and betrayal among leaders and emphasised the importance of resolving disputes swiftly to prevent escalation into violence or public unrest.

The Iyaloja-General also reiterated that welfare should be distributed fairly among all members, condemning the alleged practices of favouring only loyalists in the union.
