Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has described Nigeria as more of a gas than a crude oil state.

He spoke at the official commissioning of Greenville’s Liquified Natural Gas/Compressed Natural Gas (LNG/CNG) station, which offers energy cost-reduction LNG and CNG fueling options to the public in Lafia, the state capital.

The governor, who conducted a quantitative analysis between the volume of documented crude oil reserves and gas reserves in the country, said that with Nigeria’s gas reserves conservatively estimated at 220 trillion cubic liters, Nigeria is more of a gas state.

He also noted the great potential of Nasarawa State as an oil and gas state, expressing his vision of Nasarawa gas fields becoming gas farms that will eventually meet the gas requirements of companies like Greenville LNG in the near future.

Sule commended Greenville LNG Co Ltd for constructing its gas hub station as scheduled and setting the pace for cost-cutting CNG and LNG delivery in Nasarawa State.

He also thanked the company for leading the visionary Nasarawa gas utilization agenda. He urged the company to expand its operations beyond the state capital to other parts of the state.

The governor informed the public in Lafia that, in line with the state government’s gasification policy to reduce and sustainably manage energy costs, his administration is sponsoring 50 youths to be trained as technicians for converting automotive vehicles to CNG-powered engines.

He further called on local investors within Nasarawa State to align with Greenville LNG and invest in related businesses and projects across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Inter-governmental Relations for Greenville LNG Company Limited, Alhaji Zubairu Ibrahim Bayi, who represented and delivered the goodwill message of the company’s Chairman, Mr. Eddy Van den Broeke, expressed sincere congratulations to the governor, the state government, and the people of Nasarawa State on the commissioning of the L-CNG hub station in Lafia, the first of its kind in the state.

He said: “The conceptualization, construction, completion, and subsequent commissioning of this project is a clear testimony of Your Excellency’s unwavering resolve to provide and improve lasting developmental infrastructure that positively impacts citizens’ lives across the state and indeed the country in general.”

Bayi recalled that the history of Greenville’s LNG-CNG Station Project in Lafia began when the governor graciously granted Greenville LNG ample land to construct the hub station, with a record approval time that clearly exemplified the helpful leadership trajectory of Governor Sule.

Bayi added: “It is with worthy pride that we announce to the general public today that, within our well-meant commitment to the Nasarawa State Government and the public, Greenville LNG has kept faith and delivered the first LNG-CNG Station in the state within the promised and planned period of one year.”

Alhaji Bayi further informed the gathering that the Greenville LNG Lafia Gas station, at full operation, will provide CNG dispensing capacity of 32 tons per day and 220 tons of LNG per day.

He explained the multi-dimensional benefits, including cost-effective energy solutions, promotion of sustainable businesses that foster economic growth and planned development, and the creation of a desirable green climate, positioning Nasarawa State as one of the leaders in green energy compliance in the country.
