Edo poll: INEC says 125,928 PVCs collected in five days

Independent National Electoral Commission Tuesday disclosed that 125,928 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been collected in the state within five days ahead of the Edo governorship election slated for September 21.

National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun made the disclosure in a statement while announcing conclusion of the collection of PVCs at the Ward level

He said the Commission has learnt lessons of previous collection of PVCs and has carefully packaged all the PVCs by Poling Units, Wards and LGAs.

“We also produced the collection register, providing details of the voters whose cards were ready for collection and uploaded same to our website” he said.

“As a result, out of the 184,438 new PVCs available, 125,928 cards were collected by voters representing 68.3% of the total. This is the highest percentage of PVCs collected in five days since the Commission introduced the CVR ahead of off-cycle governorship elections in 2015.

Olumekun said a detailed breakdown of the collection by LGAs has been uploaded to the commission’s website and social media platforms for public information, adding that collection will resume in INEC’s 18 LGA offices in Edo State from August 28 2024 and end on Sunday September, 8 2024.

He appealed to the remaining voters to pick up their PVCs in person from its LGA offices.
