LG poll: Philanthropist urges calm amid Ogun council zoning dispute
A philanthropist and founder of the Pega Foundation, Prince Ekunola Gbenga Abraham, has urged youths and stakeholders in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State to remain calm following growing agitations regarding an unwritten zoning agreement between Ifekowajo and Ilaro zone over the chairmanship seat.
Abraham, who made this call during an interactive session with a large gathering of supporters at Empire Hall in Ilaro, Yewa South, expressed confidence in the All Progressive Party (APC) leadership and Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ability to choose the best candidate to represent the party.
Commending Abiodun’s administration for fostering democracy in Ogun State, the philanthropist and advocate of grassroots development expressed gratitude to his supporters, friends, family, colleagues, and various stakeholders for their confidence in him to represent the party for the council elections.
“I urge you, my supporters, to respect Governor Abiodun’s and party leaders’ decisions, as I believe in peaceful and democratic politics. I pray for the party leaders to ensure a fair candidate selection process,” he advised.
He assured that if given the opportunity, he will prioritise development in his constituency without discrimination or favouritism, warning against thuggery and hooliganism.
He expressed appreciation to all attendees and stakeholders, including friends, family, colleagues, and representatives from various wards and organisations, for their trust in his ability to bring development and growth to Yewa South Local Government, especially with local government autonomy.
Abraham, who acknowledged the sacrifices made by his supporters, including those who abandoned their businesses, promised to remain humble, accessible, and committed to listening to their concerns, whether chosen as the party’s candidate or not.
Reacting, a supporter, Mr. Shobowale Babatunde Monsuru, noted that the event showcased Abraham’s dedication to democracy, unity, and development, reflecting his commitment to the well-being of Ogun State and its people.
The Chairman of Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, announced in a statement signed by him and made available to journalists in Abeokuta that the local government elections in Ogun State have been fixed for Saturday, November 16, 2024.
