I’m still in charge, Eguavoen denies quitting as Eagles coach
Austin Eguavoen has denied media reports claiming that he has quit his job as the caretaker coach of the Super Eagles.
Reports late Tuesday night emerged that Eguavoen had resigned after leading the Super Eagles to two 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The Technical Director of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), who replaced German coach Bruno Labbadia in an interim capacity, has, however, denied stepping down.

“It is quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct. And the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories,” Eguavoen said in a media chat on his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
“I only talked about sitting down with the hierarchy of the federation after these two games, and we will see how to go about prosecuting the next games.
“But when I saw that story, I was worried. Whatever people are reading out there isn’t correct. I’m still very much in charge.
“I am the technical director of the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles at this moment.”
The 59-year-old Eguavoen led the Super Eagles to defeat Benin Republic 3-0, courtesy of a brace from Atalanta attacker Ademola Lookman and another goal from Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen on Saturday, before a 0-0 draw with Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.
