The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, on Wednesday, solicited Edo people’s support for Olumide Akpata ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, saying he is the most qualified candidate in the race to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Speaking during the party’s campaign in Benin, Obi urged eligible voters in the state to come out en masse to cast their votes for Akpata, pledging that the LP candidate was the most qualified to fix Edo State.

“I am here to tell you that the Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, has the capacity to fix and move the state forward,” Obi said.

“I urge the electorate to come out en masse and vote for our party’s candidate. I am here to mobilise for our candidate and assure you that he will do well.”

The LP campaign train moved from the party’s secretariat at Saponba Road through Ring Road, Oba Market, Mission Road, New Benin to the New Lagos Road amid cheers from the people.

The party’s faithful defied the early downpour and followed their party leaders around the metropolis to woo voters ahead of next Saturday’s election.
