Firm installs solar powered light on Sagamu-Iperu-Ode road

Towards the fulfillment of 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly (Goal 9) which focus on industry, innovation, and infrastructure, one of Nigeria’s leading alternative energy solution providers, SolarCity Nigeria, has installed solar-powered street light on the Sagamu-Iperu-Ode road in Ogun State.

The initiative marks a significant milestone in regional infrastructure enhancement and exemplifies the pivotal role businesses play in advancing community transformation.

Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun had recently inaugurated the newly completed Sagamu-Iperu-Ode Road. The project, realised in partnership with SolarCityGas Nigeria, features the installation of solar-powered street lighting along a stretch of road, which connects key areas within the state.

The Chief Executive Officer, SolarCityGas Nigeria, Olasubomi Okeowo, expressed gratitude to the Ogun state government particularly the ministry of works for the collaboration in implementing the innovative solar lighting solution. Okeowo highlighted the dual advantages of initiative to include reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimising environmental impact. He noted that it will also provide a reliable energy source that enhances safety and security, particularly at night.

He said: “As Nigeria transitions towards alternative and renewable energy sources, this project stands as a testament to the economic advantages of renewable energy within the country’s power infrastructure. The successful installation of solar-powered LED street lights serves as a model for future projects, highlighting the tangible benefits of integrating renewable energy into national infrastructure.”

Speaking at the commissioning of the project recently, Abiodun said: “Before the construction of the road, travel from Lagos to Ibadan through Remo is about seven hours. Now, the journey from Lagos to Ijebu-Ode to Babcock University to Sagamu can be completed in less than 50 minutes.”

According to the governor, road will significantly improve transportation efficiency in the area.

Also speaking, the paramount ruler of Iperuland, Oba Basibo lauded the government for the successful completion of the road.
