Kwara community begs governor to repair access road

The Olushabi of Elerinjare in the Ibobo area of Ifelodun local government of Kwara State, Oba Tajudeen Olanrewaju Bello, has appealed to the government for the repair of 3.7 kilometers of Idofian-Elerinjare road.

The monarch, through the Elerinjare-Ibobo Descendants Union (EIDU), publicity secretary, AbdulHakeem Garba, made the appeal in a statement.

The king stated that the road linking Oko-Okuta and Okoya adjoining agrarian communities, saying the road, if repaired, “will reduce manpower of traveling as it leads to Ijokun in Oyun local government, thereby to Offa.”

According to him, the road has always been maintained through levies and general communal efforts.

“Communal efforts have been sustaining the road for years as each household is being levied yearly, especially during the rainy season,” the monarch said.

Sources said the road was once awarded for construction during the first tenure of former governor Bukola Saraki and again rewarded in the second tenure of former governor Abdulfattah Ahmed.

Bello added that even though they are members if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) “dividends of democracy is yet to reach us, we are using this platform to appeal to the concerned.”

The community leader lamented the inaccessibility of the village by the indigenes who traveled every year during festivities as rain often flooded the points of entry.

The monarch disclosed that it has taken its destiny into its hands by providing social amenities with self-help.

He hinted that “the community has built primary and secondary schools themselves, provide electricity and hand-pump boreholes by taxing each household since 1984.”
