A call for Tarabans and the public at large to distance themselves from the army shooting range located in the state has been made by the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

The warning, as noted by The Guardian, was necessitated following the upcoming 2024 Annual Range Classification Phase 2.

In a statement made available to journalists on Monday in Jalingo by the spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the exercise, which is scheduled for 17th to 19th September 2024, will take place at the 114 Battalion Rear in the Jimlari area of Lau Local Government Council.

“As part of the military’s yearly routine, the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Jalingo, will commence its 2024 Annual Range Classification Phase 2 on Tuesday (tomorrow) to Thursday at the military range in Jimlari,” he said.

The military exercise will be undertaken by unit personnel to enhance their weapon handling and maintenance abilities, among other skills.

Though the safety of lives and property has been assured by the soldiers, the need for the public to stay away from the shooting range, the army believes, can no longer be overemphasized.

“During the exercise, there will be massive movement of troops and equipment, including the firing of ammunition at the military range,” the statement read.

Urging members of the public not to panic, the statement also assured that adequate measures are already in place to ensure the safety of lives and property.

It added that “they are further informed to stay away from the 114 Battalion Rear, Jimlari shooting range areas throughout the period of the exercise.”
