The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yesterday reported a fatal accident involving a containerised truck and a commercial Suzuki minibus with registration number EPE 718 HR.

The incident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. on CMS Bridge, near UBA, descending towards Apongbon Bridge, Lagos Island. According to LASTMA officers, preliminary investigations indicate that the truck driver had temporarily halted the vehicle to address a mechanical malfunction when the Suzuki minibus, reportedly travelling at excessive speed, struck it.

It was gathered that the impact resulted in the driver’s immediate death, while a female passenger in the Suzuki sustained eye injuries and was urgently transported to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for emergency medical treatment.

LASTMA personnel quickly responded to the scene, coordinating efforts with officers from the Ebute-Ero Police Division, LASAMBUS, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit.

The police secured the scene, facilitated the removal of the deceased’s remains, and supported LASTMA officers to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the aftermath of the incident.

Meanwhile, LASTMA sympathised with the deceased’s family and urged motorists to exercise vigilance and adhere to traffic regulations, especially in densely congested areas. The agency added that it remains unwavering in its dedication to promoting road safety and preventing such tragic occurrences in the future.
