A member representing Yewa North-ImekoAfon Federal Constituency, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), has said that local council autonomy will play a pivotal role in value re-orientation and enhance activities of traditional institutions in the country.
He said that with the law, the role of traditional institutions in local councils would receive a boost and reflect on the value system of the country. Isiaka made this assertion during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Alabi Oyeditan Olanite.
He said: “As we go into more viral local council administration, in line with the decision of the Supreme Court, I believe that all the institutions in the communities will be put into use, including the traditional institutions.”
“The country is going through some reformations in those areas, and I believe in traditional institutions to promote our values.
“The challenge we have in our society now is the total breakdown in our value system, and I think our traditional institutions are in a very good position to be able to use their beads and authority to promote the values that we want in the country, give titles to those that have promoted the value system in one form or the other, as well as recognise people that have done things to promote our value system.”
He, however, commended the developmental strides of Onimekoin the area of tradition and custom as well as other human endeavours, saying that people are more aware of the historical background of the community.
