Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA)has pledged to remain dedicated to protecting and preserving the city’s waterways as the world celebrates World Water Monitoring Day today.

The agency disclosed this, in a statement via its Official X formerly Twitter account.

LAWMA stated the vital role that water plays in sustaining both ecosystems and human life, adding that the agency has emphasised the importance of continuous water quality monitoring and waste management to ensure safe, clean environments for all.

The agency commended the efforts of its marine waste services team, which works round the clock to clean Lagos’ canals, rivers, and lagoons.

While encouraging the public to actively participate in the global movement for water protection, the agency said that avoiding littering and using designated disposal points to prevent waste from entering local waterways will go a long way in keeping Lagos clean.

The agency further urged residents to join hands in preserving these vital resources for future generations.

The LAWMA has also invited Lagosians to test, monitor, and take steps to safeguard their water resources, ensuring a cleaner, healthier future for both the city and the planet.
