Suspected armed bandits have killed two people and rustled an unspecified number of animals at Gora community, in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident was said to have occured late Sunday night while most of residents of the community were fast asleep.

A source from the area identified the deceased victims as Garba, and Isa na Zubairu.

He said during the incident, people were mobilized to go confront the bandits, but that the bandits left area of operation by the time the people reached there.

He added that efforts were also made to pursue them, and possibly recover the stolen animals, but that the bandits were moving from place to place, and not static.

When contacted, a traditional title holder familiar with security-related issues in the council, Alhaji Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, confirmed the incident.

Abdulaziz lamented that such killings were now routine whenever the bandits come out to operate.

The incident comes about three weeks after suspected bandits killed two people and injured several others at Gidan Barau community in the council area.

The incident later led to a protest by some residents due to what they described as police injustice over the arrest of some of their members “simply because they were defending their community from bandits”.

During the protest, the protesters blocked a major road that links Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina States, with vow not to unblock the road till all their arrested members were released from police custody.

As at time of report, the police command in the state has not responded or issued a statement on the Sunday night incident.
