Muslim children were drawn from all parts of Lagos under the auspices of Lagos State Muslim Community to celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) with a view to propagate the exemplary lifestyle of the Holy Prophet among young Muslims.

The celebration which was held at Onikan Stadium was attended by thousands of Arabic school pupils in colourful uniforms, featuring Quranic competition and match pass among other activities.

Dignitaries present at the competition are, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode; Imole Adinni of Lagos State, Otunba Saheed Lawal; Chairman, Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Shakir Gafar; former Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Chief Oyinlomo Danmole among others.

Speaking at the yearly Maolud Nabiyy celebration, the President of Lagos Muslim Community, Professor Tajudeen Gbadamosi, urged Muslims to emulate the beautiful conduct of the noble Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), noting that his exemplary qualities should be taught to young Muslim children.

“The Holy Prophet was sent to guide mankind through the Holy Quran and it is a must to embed his teachings to the young coming generation as it will make them confident to deal with challenges and navigate life, especially during difficult times.”

He noted that the Holy Prophet was known for his trustworthiness, kindness and exemplary leadership style which is worth emulating.
“Allah (SWT) said he sent the holy prophet as a benevolent personality to the world and he proved it by his living example that he was the most truthful and honest person, he was not involved in immoral and corrupt practice. The people of his time referred to him as Al-Ameen.”

He appealed to Nigerians irrespective of the position they found themselves to be kind to their subordinate.

“Let us be kind to one another. If you are a landlord, be kind to your tenants and neighbours, if you are head of the family, be kind to your families and if you are a director be kind to junior members of staff.

“As we all read about the Holy Prophet (SAW), there is nowhere we heard that he embezzled public funds. He never received a salary and he always participated in every work his companions engaged in. When they are hungry, they would also have nothing to eat. They all passed through the hard times together.”

Prof Gbadamosi advised the children to be good ambassadors of Islam. “We want you to be good representatives of Islam anywhere you find yourselves. Let the Holy Prophet be your role model.”

The Chairman of the occasion, Imole Adinni of Lagos State, Otunba Saheed Lawal, commended the Muslim clerics on the wonderful jobs done to train the children.

“Anyone who learns the Quran will be sound academically. We need to encourage the children more so that they will be able to represent the state well in interstate and international competitions,” he said.
