Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday visited Bode Saadu to sympathise with residents following severe floods that submerged many homes and overflowed the Arinun Bridge. The flood, triggered by recent downpours, caused significant damage in the area, prompting the governor to visit the community alongside Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. John Bello, and Special Adviser (Special Duties), Abdulrazaq Jiddah, to assess the situation firsthand.
Residents of Bode Saadu expressed their gratitude for the governor’s visit, recognising it as a sign of his continued dedication to their welfare. During the visit, Governor AbdulRazaq reassured the community of the government’s commitment to addressing the root cause of the flooding and providing immediate relief.
“We are here to commiserate with the people of Bode Saadu and make sure everyone is okay, while also identifying the causes of the flood,” the governor said during his visit. He attributed the flooding to challenges surrounding a temporary bypass constructed by the Federal Ministry of Works as part of the ongoing Ilorin-Mokwa road dualisation project.
Governor AbdulRazaq noted that experts, including the Director of Highways from the Federal Ministry of Works, were already en route to find a swift solution to the flooding. In the meantime, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has been deployed to provide immediate relief to those affected.
The governor also took the opportunity to appeal to residents across the state to adhere to building regulations, specifically the importance of observing setbacks, which help reduce the risk of flooding and other environmental hazards. “One of the major challenges we face nationwide is people not observing setbacks. Half of the buildings wouldn’t have been affected if they had adhered to the right setbacks,” he said.
