The world is a tasteless and a bitter place to be. This is due to the consequences of sin, but God has called us, believers, for a rescue mission; to rescue the world from its brokenness. Children of God are the salt of the world. Therefore, since we are to be the salt of the earth, we are to keep the world from corruption. Our job in this world is to prevent the decay of the world. We are not supposed to follow the world system in their ways of doing things, but to lead an exemplary lives for the people of the world to copy. Our job in this world is to prevent the decay of the world. The world is already corrupt. The world is not righteous. The world is not good. The world is not moral. The world is sinful and utterly lost. It has decayed. It is corrupted. We are to be salt in this world. We should speak and act in a way that helps the world get better so that God is glorified.
Believers are instruments of God’s righteousness on earth. We are God’s agent of transformation on earth. We are to enforce godly values in the fabric of our society. We should make doing things right a must and in godly way too, instead of on our natural default system to positively influence onlookers to do things rightly.
Being salt of the earth speaks of our identity as children of God. To live as salt of the earth and light of the world is to know our deepest, truest, and most authentic self. It means that we are to flavour the world. We are to season and transform human activity in such a way that it reveals God in this world. Christ has given us the salt and light of His divinity not just for ourselves, but that others might eat and see better. The salt of divinity that was poured into our hands must be sprinkle onto the world. The light of divinity that fills our hearts must shine on and brighten the lives of people around us.
The Church has a role to play in promoting social justice in the society. We are to be agents of social justice on earth and see that the rights of the people are not being trampled upon. We are to stand for the truth and stand up against injustice and evil anywhere we see it happening. The Bible makes social justice a mandate of faith and a fundamental expression of Christian discipleship. Social justice has its biblical roots in a triune God who time and time again shows His love and compassion for the weak, the vulnerable, the marginalised, the disenfranchised and the disinherited. Part of our responsibilities as Christians is to exercise our compassion and love for others in tangible ways. Christians should feed the hungry, comfort the sorrowing and visit the sick.
We are to inculcate godly values into our children so that they can in turn influence positively other children in the society. As parents, we are to influence our children for Christ so that they can be positive world changers; change the dark world for good. We should model Christ everywhere we may found ourselves. We are God’s influencers in the world and we are to model righteousness, equity, honesty, integrity, uprightness, morality and justice. We are ambassadors of Christ on earth and we should reconcile the people of the world with Jesus Christ.
