Security sources have authoritatively confirmed that the Director General of the State Security Service, on September 19, 2024, directed the immediate release of protesters who were arrested for their various roles in the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Competent sources stated that those released commended the gesture and expressed optimism about the humane manner in which the Service conducted the investigation.
For instance, it was revealed that six persons held in Kaduna had regained their freedom, having been cleared at the end of investigations.
Meanwhile, it was reliably gathered that three individuals are being prosecuted for established prima facie cases.
The sources further noted that the DG of the secret police reiterated citizens’ right to peaceful protest as enshrined in the constitution and stressed the importance of the rule of law.
However, the sources also hinted that the DG is resolute in upholding the mandate of the Service to decisively investigate and bring to justice those who exploit such rights to perpetrate crime.
