NSCDC commandant urges Kaduna residents to embrace peace

The Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna State Command, Nuhu Bello Muhammadu, has called on Kaduna residents to foster peaceful coexistence for the state’s growth and progress.

This call was made during the International Day of Peace celebration on 20 September 2024 at the Kaduna State University auditorium. The statement was issued on Friday and signed by SC Habeeb Badamasi, the CDPRO of the NSCDC Kaduna State Command.

Speaking at the event, themed “Cultivating the Culture of Peace,” Commandant Muhammadu stressed the importance of unity and harmony among residents, noting that peace is essential for Kaduna’s rapid development. “We need peace in Kaduna State. We need to come together as one and move progressively for the development of the state,” he stated.

He also praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his continuous efforts to maintain peace in the state, particularly through the provision of patrol vehicles under the Operation Fushin Kada initiative.

These vehicles have been key in ensuring security by deploying personnel to strategic areas across the state.

Reflecting on the achievements of the NSCDC, Commandant Muhammadu highlighted that the Corps’ Peace and Conflict Unit successfully resolved 265 disputes in the last year.

These included 70 family or marital disputes, 60 cases of breach of trust, 50 land disputes, 40 farmer-herder conflicts, and 45 other land-related disputes.

He urged residents to continue settling disputes peacefully, stressing the role of dialogue in maintaining peace.

“As we mark this important day, we must remember that peace is the cornerstone of our development. With peaceful coexistence, Kaduna will witness rapid growth,” Commandant Muhammadu concluded.
