APWEN tasks members with renewable energy efficiency

Dr. Adebisi Osim
Women engineers in the country under the auspices of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) have been tasked to lead the charge in developing sustainable solutions and advocate for policies that support renewable energy investments, enhance grid resilience and promote energy efficiency.

The charge was given by the President APWEN, Adebisi Osim, during a press briefing at the 2024 International Conference and Annual General Meeting of the association in Calabar on Monday with the theme, ‘Engineering Innovations And Energy, Security For A Sustainable Future.’

She said that as professional women engineers, they must embrace and proffer solutions to global challenges of climate change, energy, insecurity and the urgent need for sustainable development.

Osim reminded them that the future of engineering and energy security depends on the innovations they create, the inclusion they promote and the leadership they demonstrate.

She said that the theme of this year’s conference shows the critical intersection of technology sustainability and the vital role that engineers play in addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing the world today.

The president said that during the five-day conference, they would be looking at how engineers can advance renewable energy technologies by looking at renewable energy solutions such as solar, wind, hydroelectric and geochemical power.

She expressed optimism that by investing in these technologies, the country can reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing the efficiency of energy distribution and consumption.
