Association seeks NSCDC’s partnership to combat pipeline vandalism, irregularities

The Association of Nigerian Refineries and Petroleum Marketers (ANRPM) has called for a partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to combat irregularities within the petroleum sector.

The union disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC in Ikeja. Lagos State Chairman of ANRPM, Mr Eniola Thomas, said the meeting held at the office of the State Commandant of NSCDC was aimed at fostering collaboration between the two bodies to tackle issues such as pipeline vandalism, product diversion, and the circulation of adulterated petroleum products. He emphasised the situation’s urgency and the need for a robust partnership.

“We are seeking a partnership to strike against any irregularity within the petroleum sector, kicking against the diversion of petroleum products and the vandalisation of pipelines. These are the main objectives of our association.

“If we observe closely, the losses the federal government incurs through criminal acts are alarming, and the danger these activities pose to communities is equally concerning. We are here to solicit your support and partnership in tackling these criminal acts,” Thomas stated. He also revealed that the association plans to recruit personnel across the local councils to monitor the sector closely.

“We are trying to recruit at least 11 personnel across all local governments in the country to represent our association. These individuals will keep us updated on local developments so that security agencies can respond promptly,” he added.

In his remarks, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, welcomed the partnership, stressing the importance of joint efforts in safeguarding national assets.

“One of the major responsibilities of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps is precisely what the association has outlined.

“We have the mandate to protect the assets of the government. The issues raised by the association are critical economic matters that need adequate policing and protection.

“I am glad for this courtesy visit, and the partnership is a welcome development for us. The Nigeria Civil Defence Corps cannot do it alone, and having an organisation like yours will help us achieve our objectives in safeguarding the petroleum infrastructure,” he said.Keshinro further affirmed the readiness of the NSCDC to work with the association.
