Why Tinubu should stop NNPLC’s monopoly of Dangote petrol – Group

A civil society group, Congress for Good Governance for National Unity (CGGNU), has charged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be wary of his aides who delight in bringing him in collision with Nigerians by foisting on them avoidable punitive policies that tend to paint him as insensitive to their wellbeing.

The group, in a statement by its National President, Abiodun Fanoro, noted that allowing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to have monopoly of the sale of Dangote petrol is anti-people and a reckless affront on free market economy, which may portray the government as deceitful and only out to add to the pains of the citizens.

It, therefore, pleaded with Tinubu to heed voices of reason echoed by elder statesmen like Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who recently spoke against the decision.

Fanoro added that failure to reverse it could be wrongly interpreted as a needless battle with the people.

The group noted that the monopoly given to NNPCL negates the free market claim by a spokesperson of the government, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, at a media chat during the week.

“Giving the monopoly to NNPCL is a tactical encouragement and promotion by government, the culture of indolence and unfruitfulness that for decades have become the working policy of the national oil firm, whose workforce that does not produce one litre of petrol allegedly consumes over a billion naira yearly for over a decade,” he said.
