Fifth edition of mPulse spelling bee competition commences


The fifth edition of the mPulse Spelling Bee Competition aimed at promoting literacy and empowering young minds has kicked off. Open to children ages 9 to 15, through initiatives such as the mPulse Spelling Bee, MTN has continuously demonstrated its commitment to fostering education and empowering the next generation.

Over the past four editions, it has become a hallmark event for primary and secondary students nationwide, allowing them to test their spelling knowledge while having fun. Participants also win prizes, with the first prize winner having the opportunity to be MTN CEO for a day.

The mPulse Spelling Bee Competition will unfold in three stages. With the first round which started September 9 underway and slated to end on Oct 27, 2024, participants will be required to answer ten spelling questions during Round 1 on the mPulse website. 

Shortlisted students from the first round will proceed to the second round starting from November 4 to 10, 2024. Like the first round, participants will answer 20 spelling questions on the mPulse website. The top 1,000 students from this round will be shortlisted based on their performance.

The grand finale will feature the top 20 students with the highest scores from the second round. This stage will be held in Lagos and streamed live on the mPulse website and YouTube, giving audiences across the country the opportunity to witness the competition’s climax.

The mPulse Spelling Bee Competition offers a range of exciting prizes for its top performers. The first prize winner will receive a ₦5 million scholarship grant, a laptop, a smartphone, and a mPulse goody bag, along with the unique opportunity to serve as the MTN CEO for a day.

In addition, the winner’s school will be awarded an ICT lab with 10 laptops and 10 MTN Hynet Flex devices, while the student’s teacher will receive ₦500,000 in cash.

The second prize includes a ₦2.5 million scholarship grant, a laptop, a smartphone, and a mPulse goody bag for the student, while the teacher will be awarded ₦300,000 in cash.

The third prize winner will be awarded a ₦1.5 million scholarship grant, a laptop, a smartphone, and a mPulse goody bag, with the teacher receiving ₦200,000 in cash. The remaining 17 finalists will each receive scholarship grants and a mPulse goody bag in recognition of their efforts during the competition.
