Lagos State Government has unveiled a permit identification tag for physical planning permits and extended the amnesty period to December 31, 2024. The amnesty for unapproved buildings to get approved by the state government was expected to end in October at 50 per cent rebate.

In his address, yesterday, during the 2024 Lagos Physical Planning Summit held at Victoria Island, with the theme: “Rethinking Lagos: A New Vision for Regional and Integrated Megacity,” Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the state government would embark on the construction of an overpass in Ikotun, as well as put other infrastructure in place to build resilience to secure the megacity status of the state.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the summit was designed to shape a glorious position as Lagos boasts of soaring industries and other infrastructure that would galvanise the potential of the state into a home.

However, the former governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola, has asked the state government to reduce the number of agencies giving approval for buildings, as well as the administrative cost for building approval.

Fashola, who stated this at the summit, called on town planners and government to look at how the state’s resources, including land and infrastructure, would be put to better use to ensure prosperity.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, MorufAkinderu-Fatai, has directed the contractor handling the LagosHOMS housing scheme in Ajara, Badagry, to meet the agreed project deadline or face consequences. Akinderu-Fatai gave the directive during a tour of the ongoing project, accompanied by the technical team of the ministry.

He said that Sanwo-Olu’s administration would ensure that all ongoing housing projects are completed to the highest standards and within the governor’s second term tenure.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing quality homes, particularly for low- and medium-income earners, adding that the project is designed to meet the housing needs of residents in the Lagos West Senatorial District.
