Premiere Academy in Lugbe, Abuja, recently hosted its annual University Fair, featuring representatives from 16 foreign higher institutions. This initiative, organized by the school’s Admission and Scholarship Unit, aims to assist graduating students in accessing admission and scholarship opportunities both locally and internationally.
The University Fair, which started in 2023, saw this year’s edition partner with the British American University Consultancy (AUC), while last year’s event collaborated with the United States’ Higher Education Facilitation and Recruitment Agency (EDUCATIONUSA).
Evelyn Dung, Head of the Admission and Scholarship Help Desk at Premiere Academy, highlighted the event’s focus on seminars and engagement sessions that inform students about university application requirements and visa processes.
The fair has been instrumental in helping students secure their academic futures and pursue their career aspirations. Dung noted that last year’s fair successfully facilitated a graduate’s admission to Harvard University and aided seven others in applying for fully-funded scholarships at the United World College (UWC).
According to Dung, the program has established itself as a significant platform that attracts leading institutions from around the globe, enabling many students to secure admissions to foreign universities. This year, participating institutions included prominent universities and specialized schools from the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, and other European countries. Notable attendees were the University of Kent, University of Portsmouth, and International Business College in Manchester, along with Fairleigh Dickinson University in Vancouver and the University of Northern British Columbia.
Students, parents, and officials from Premiere Academy attended presentations by representatives from these institutions, who provided insights into available courses, admission requirements, procedures, scholarships, and support systems for international students. The interactive sessions covered essential information regarding application requirements, scholarship eligibility, necessary documentation, and the latest IELTS guidelines for UK applications.
In his welcome address, Premiere Academy Principal Mr. Chris Akinsowon emphasized the significance of the University Fair in reinforcing the school’s commitment to equipping its students to compete on a global scale. He praised the platform for producing outstanding young leaders who have successfully engaged with their peers worldwide, bringing pride to their families, the school, and Nigeria.
Akinsowon stressed the importance of providing young talents with access to information about available opportunities to excel internationally, ultimately enhancing Nigeria’s reputation among elite nations. He stated, “Education in the 21st century should be practical, immersive, hands-on, and empowering for the future greatness of our nation. Premiere Academy is proud to be a nurturing space that helps our students aim for intellectual growth, cultural enrichment, and the drive to compete globally.”
In a related development, graduating student Akpasu Isaiah has been nominated for the Alan and Jane Handler Scholarship at the University of Rochester in New York City. This prestigious scholarship program offers financial support, academic advising, peer mentoring, and special opportunities for Handler Scholars, including an enrichment fund of up to $5,000.
Akinsowon commended Akpasu Isaiah’s nomination, reiterating the school’s commitment to fostering impactful relationships and partnerships with leading global institutions. He affirmed that Premiere Academy will continue to adapt its systems and environments to emerging global trends, ensuring that students acquire vital life skills that promote confidence, creativity, teamwork, and leadership, thus preparing them to excel in all aspects of life.
