Holds weeklong event
Methodist Girls’ High School (MGHS) Yaba, Lagos, marked its 145th anniversary, celebrating its rich history as a pioneer in girl-child education. Established in 1879, the school has remained a leader in providing academic and personal development for young girls.
Speaking with journalists on the activities lined up for the ceremony billed to commence today (Monday), the Principal, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Padomu praised the school’s enduring commitment to excellence.
“We are celebrating a milestone in the annals of Methodist Girls’ High School, a community of learners dedicated to academic excellence, personal growth, and social responsibility,” she said.
Reflecting on the school’s founding mission, Mrs. Padomu emphasised that MGHS was created to provide young girls with high-quality education, equipping them with both academic and domestic skills to contribute to society.
“The aim of our founders was to give the girl-child the highest level of literacy and domestic training to enable them become good wives, mothers, and contributors to society’s stability.”
The principal also highlighted the achievements of the school under her leadership, including high academic performance, a thriving counselling and mentoring system, and victories in extra-curricular activities.
“Our goal has always been for Methodist Girls’ High School to consciously gain high standards,” she added. Padomu reaffirmed the school’s commitment to fostering both academic excellence and holistic growth. “While academic excellence is our thrust, we are also committed to preparing our students for life, grooming them to face the challenges of tomorrow.”
The weeklong activities lined up include holy communion and carnival on Monday; Award and Magazine launch on Tuesday; Back to school on Wednesday; inter house sports on Thursday, and international cultural day on Friday, while global reunion holds on Saturday and thanksgiving on Sunday.
