A road accident claimed the lives of two children in Ogun State on Sunday

A tragic accident in Lagos claimed the life of a commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) following a collision with a Dangote truck at Area B, near Point Road, heading towards Airways in Apapa. The incident occurred early yesterday morning and has been attributed to reckless driving by the truck driver.

The motorcyclist died instantly at the scene, while a female passenger on board sustained severe injuries. The truck driver reportedly lost control due to dangerous driving, resulting in the collision.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials arrived promptly, rescuing the injured passenger and transporting her to Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical care.

Both the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. LASTMA coordinated with the Area B Police Station to secure and remove the truck, which has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a stern warning to truck drivers, urging them to adhere to speed limits and ensure their vehicles are regularly maintained. He also called on commercial motorcyclists to avoid prohibited routes, including highways and bridges.

Bakare-Oki said the need for all road users to comply with traffic regulations to prevent future tragedies. He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased motorcyclist and expressed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured passenger.
