A driver was killed yesterday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a white Mazda bus loaded with potatoes crashed into a moving truck near the Lotto area of the road.

The Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Agency (TRACE) confirmed the accident, attributing it to excessive speed and driver fatigue.
The agency’s spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said eyewitnesses reported that the driver, heading to Lagos for an early morning delivery, appeared to have dozed off, losing control and ramming into a Dangote truck.

Akinbiyi urged caution, particularly on night journeys, warning that speeding and fatigue remain major contributors to road fatalities. In a separate incident, a commercial motorcyclist died following a head-on collision with a truck at Apapa, Lagos.

The truck driver fled the scene, leaving the injured passenger to be rushed to Apapa General Hospital by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, cautioned truck drivers to observe speed limits and ensure vehicle maintenance while calling on motorcyclists to avoid prohibited routes.
