Army averts fire disaster in P’Harcourt after tanker accident

Troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army swiftly averted a potentially devastating fire outbreak in Port Harcourt after a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) overturned at Rumuokwuta Roundabout yesterday morning.

The accident posed a serious threat to life and property in the area, but the prompt intervention of the Nigerian Army helped prevent a disaster. Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Division, stated that the Acting Commanding Officer of the 760 Transport Battalion, Major Al-Mustapha Shawwal Adams, immediately mobilised and led the Division’s Fire Crew to the scene.

“The operation, conducted in collaboration with sister agencies, ensured that all safety and security protocols were strictly observed. The area was cordoned off, and necessary preventive measures were carried out to bring the situation under control,” Danjuma explained.Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding 6 Division. praised the troops for their quick response and reassured the people of Rivers State that the Division would continue to prioritise people-centric operations, in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
No life or property was lost in the incident.
