Firm plans smart city to transform Abuja’s Karshi town

Firm plans to turn karshi town to smart city

In an effort to address the pressing issue of congestion in central Abuja, real estate firm Wisdom Kwati Smart City Ltd has pledged to embark on an ambitious project to develop Karshi, a satellite town in Abuja, into a modern urban hub.

The proposed development aims to create an eco-friendly, self-sustaining mega city that integrates technology and environmental sustainability. It is expected to enhance the town’s visibility and foster economic growth by attracting investments, creating job opportunities, and improving infrastructure.

According to the firm, the project will focus on revitalising key areas, including the historic Karshi market, which has long served as a vital trading centre in the region.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wisdom Kwati Group, Wisdom Kwati, emphasised the importance of the project:

“We are committed to creating affordable housing for the middle and low-income classes, addressing the ongoing shortage of such accommodations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”

He noted that the firm’s vision aligns closely with the current administration’s efforts to improve housing accessibility.

“Our project is aligned with the current administration’s vision to improve access to housing. We are committed to supporting the government’s initiatives through innovative real estate solutions that can bridge the gap between demand and supply.

“Our vision with the Karshi Smart City is to create a self-sustaining ecosystem where technology, environmental sustainability, and quality of life come together seamlessly,” Kwati added.

He further explained that the project aims to encourage residents to relocate to the satellite town.

“Abuja’s housing crisis is a pressing issue, and we are determined to make a difference. Our project will not only offer affordable homes but also incorporate sustainable building practices that will reduce costs in the long run—making life easier for residents,” he said.

This initiative aligns with the recent announcement by the FCT administration regarding the completion of the Karshi-Apo road. During a site inspection in July 2024, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike expressed his commitment to the road project.

The Karshi-Apo road is currently designed as a single lane, but its configuration may change as development progresses, with the FCT administration considering expansion to a dual lane. Wike also mentioned a proposed interstate road linking Karshi to Ara in Nasarawa State, contingent on federal government support.

With these developments, Wisdom Kwati Smart City’s initiative marks a pivotal step toward the revitalization of Karshi and sets the stage for the town’s future growth. The proposed housing development not only aims to meet the community’s needs but also serves as a forerunner to broader urban development plans for the area.
