CAIN Africa empowers underprivileged students with game-changing AI education

The World Economic Forum predicts that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will create 97 million new jobs by 2025. However, the digital divide poses a serious threat to African youth. According to the UNDP, a staggering 90% of students in Africa graduate without basic digital skills. This summer, CAIN Educational Foundation took bold steps to address this gap by empowering underprivileged students from underserved communities with essential AI knowledge and skills.

For four transformative weeks, CAIN Africa hosted a Summer Program that blended AI education with activities aimed at enhancing communication skills and fostering critical thinking. “We are not just teaching students about Artificial Intelligence; we are empowering them for the future,” stated May Oghenerukeme Asagba, Founder and CEO of CAIN Educational Foundation.

Recognizing a significant gap in AI educational materials designed for teenagers, CAIN Africa created “The AI Adventure: A Guide for Teenagers.” This engaging book features interactive activities and captivating graphics, making the complex world of AI simple and accessible to young minds.

To maximize the impact of their mission, CAIN partnered with Optimus Digital Future, a pioneering AI hub committed to making AI education inclusive. This collaboration provided students with cutting-edge AI tools and immersive learning experiences, including access to the Optimus Academy E-Learning Platform and complimentary Ziki.ai subscriptions. In addition, the curriculum was further enriched by a visit to an Extended Reality (XR) Creation Lab, made possible through a partnership with Imisi 3D Labs. This visit provided students with experiential knowledge in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality, giving them hands-on exposure to immersive technologies that will shape the future.

The Summer Program was a remarkable success, featuring hands-on activities that introduced students to the practical applications of AI. Participants engaged with “The AI Adventure,” watched the thought-provoking film I, Robot to spark discussions on AI ethics, and took part in invigorating group discussions and essay-writing exercises. This multifaceted approach not only deepened their understanding of AI but also honed their critical thinking and communication skills—essential tools for success in today’s digital landscape.

“This is far more than just an educational program; it’s a lifeline for underprivileged students who might otherwise be excluded from the digital revolution,” emphasized May Oghenerukeme Asagba, Founder and CEO of CAIN Africa. “In a rapidly evolving world, we have a responsibility to empower the next generation with the skills and knowledge not just to participate, but to lead and innovate. Our goal is to equip these young minds with the ability to harness AI and other emerging technologies so they can succeed in the digital age and contribute to the global economy.”

Since its inception in 2013, CAIN Educational Foundation has impacted over 10,000 lives through more than 13 educational programs and community initiatives.
