Firms partner to promote healthcare access to vulnerable Nigerians
Towards the provision of free health insurance coverage to low-income individuals across Nigeria, Baobab Nigeria has announced its collaboration with AXA Mansard Health, to enhance healthcare access and improve the well-being of the vulnerable population.
This move is borne out by the fact that millions of Nigerians face barriers to healthcare due to financial constraints, often resulting in untreated or poorly treated illnesses and diminished quality of life.
In a statement signed by the Acting CEO, Baobab Nigeria, Eric Ntumba, said through this initiative, the financial institution hopes to provide low-income families with health insurance coverage at no cost, allowing them to prioritise their health without the burden of financial strain.
He listed the key highlights of the collaboration to include -free health insurance coverage; community outreach; support for local health facilities; and financial education.
“1,000 low-income individuals will receive six-month health insurance coverage, including access to primary care and essential medications. Through the community outreach, this partnership will enable us to implement outreach programmes to raise awareness about available health insurance services and assist individuals in navigating the enrolment process,” Ntumba said.
Also, through the support for local health facilities, Axa Mansard with its over 1,400 hospitals and pharmacies across the country will ensure beneficiaries receive quality care close to home and through financial education, Baobab Nigeria will provide financial literacy training to help beneficiaries manage their health and finances effectively.
“We believe that access to healthcare is a crucial component of financial stability and overall well-being. This collaboration marks a significant step in our commitment to empowering low-income individuals in Nigeria, and we couldn’t have chosen a better partner for this initiative,” he said.
Speaking on the partnership, CEO of AXA Mansard Health, Tope Adeniyi, said: “We believe inclusive protection is crucial to sustainable wellbeing. We believe healthcare should be accessible, available, and affordable. Our partnership with Baobab Nigeria represents another significant leap in putting health insurance in the hands of everyone. Together, we are committed to empowering individuals and families, ensuring they receive the care they deserve, and fostering healthier futures for all.”
The initiative will enroll communities across the country, starting with Lagos, and is expected to reach 5,000 beneficiaries by 2026.
