The just concluded Lagos Fashion Week 2024 was an arena for fashion enthusiasts and designers to bring their creativity and talent to the general eye. Indeed, every attendee and audience had a style or two that was an absolute fave.

The Guardian Nigeria was in attendance, and we took clips of attendees’ views on fashion, trends, and looks that turned heads. I was particularly captivated by Ugo Monye, Oshobor, Dust of the Earth, and Imad Eduso’s collections.

In fact, I got confused at some point about which design was my favourite, as all the designers were absolutely amazing. The designers played with silhouettes, silky, custom-made, and sustainable materials that rightly captured the theme and African spirit.

Many designers came with bold designs and infused vibrant colours that were a testament to African nature and heritage. Who did it better? Many of the designers! But you see Ugo Monye and Oshobor? They literally left us speechless. The part where Ugo Monye brought our favourite musical artist, Davido, to walk his runway made the whole audience go agog.

What’s more, we saw BBNaija stars grace the runway with their looks and carriage. And hurh! Simply Tacha fell during the runway. I think her dress was too everywhere, and at backstage, she complained that the dress was too long as she needed to also be careful for her hair not to fall off. We’d say that Lagos Fashion Week 2024 was a scene for an artistic display of creativity. All designers came with their A-game.

On the runway

So, there were actually styles and trends, and designers tilted to flowy pants and infused local designs and materials like Adire and Kente to create masterpieces. LFW 2024 had bold colours, and the theme, Commune, was well explored. In fact, Heineken partnered with some designers and brought creative pieces to the runway.

Models

So really, gone are the days when you have to look a certain way or have really tall heights to be a model. At Lagos Fashion Week 2024, we saw models of different sizes and heights walk the runway. One striking amputee model walked the runway with one arm. Another walked with crutches, and I think it was fabulous to include them. There were shorter models and plus-sized ones. In fact, a senior lady walked the runway, and her carriage was everything and more.

Attendee speak

So, we asked a few questions; you’d be amazed at how individuals revamped fabrics and eco-friendly pieces to create something unique. Osas Ighodalo spoke on creativity and talents that radiate the African fashion scene. Also, a few other fashion enthusiasts gave their opinions on what fashion is and individual style.
