The call was made during a sensitisation programme at Park Royal College, Apapa, Lagos, as part of the agency’s school-based outreach initiative led by the NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd).
The programme aims to promote drug awareness among students and reflects the agency’s commitment to engaging educational institutions across Lagos and the country.
Commander Ofoyeju Mitchell of the NDLEA underscored the importance of early prevention strategies, addressing the theme: “Say No to Drugs: Empowering the Future.”
“Drugs do not discriminate,” he warned. “They can affect anyone, from the brightest student to the most promising athlete. The consequences are not just personal; the impact ripples through families, schools, and entire communities. It is crucial that young people understand the harmful effects of substance abuse.”
He encouraged students to make informed decisions and resist peer pressure.
Aduke Akinboboye, the Principal of Park Royal College, thanked the NDLEA for the timely lecture and noted its significance in helping students make positive choices regarding drug-related issues.
The event, which drew students, teachers, and staff, featured presentations from NDLEA officials on various aspects of drug abuse, including health risks, legal implications, and social consequences. The agency also shared testimonials from individuals recovering from drug use disorders, shedding light on the emotional and psychological toll of addiction.
An interactive session allowed students to ask questions, further engaging with the speakers on drug abuse prevention.
