Taxtech seeks action against digital, data protection threats

Taxaide Technologies (Taxtech) Limited has urged Africa’s top cybersecurity experts and thought leaders to tackle the pressing issue of growing digital vulnerabilities and data protection across the continent.

Speaking at the Taxtech fifth yearly Africa Data Security Conclave held virtually on November 7-8, 2024, the Chief Executive Officer, Taxaide Technologies Limited, Bidemi Olumide, outlined the complexities of data security in Africa, sharing insights on protecting individuals, businesses and governments in an increasingly digital world.

He highlighted the urgent need for robust data protection policies, awareness and education to combat digital threats in Africa.

Olumide said with the increasing reliance on technology, the conclave emphasised the importance of prioritising future collaborations and a strengthened data privacy framework across the continent.

He reinforced Taxtech’s commitment to driving innovation and excellence in advancing data security solutions, cementing its reputation as an industry leader.

Also, the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Taxtech, Prof. Abiola Sanni, underscored the shared responsibility in protecting Africa’s digital landscape and rallied leaders to prioritise a united and resilient digital future for the continent.

Sanni emphasised that data protection is a shared responsibility, noting that to safeguard vulnerable populations, there must be regulation, education and empowering technology.

“The conclave serves as a collaborative forum, enabling cybersecurity leaders to share knowledge, discuss policy gaps, and explore practical strategies for a more secure digital environment,” he stated.

Senior Cybersecurity Consultant, from South Africa, Muyowa Mutemwa, advocated for a collective commitment to secure Africa’s digital landscape and protect its people from evolving cyber threats.

He said the event sets the stage for continued collaboration and collective action to address the digital vulnerability challenge in Africa, paving the way for a more secure and privacy-conscious future.

Also at the event, the panel discussions examined the root causes of digital security challenges in Africa, along with actionable solutions.

The panellists emphasised the critical need for strong data protection policies, highlighting how policies, awareness and education are essential to tackling digital threats.
