The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disrupted an alleged pipeline vandalism operation in Adamawa State, arresting three suspects and recovering about 250 pieces of NNPC pipeline materials.
The suspects were apprehended during an operation by the NSCDC command in the state following intelligence concerning the movement of suspected vandalised pipeline components. The recovered materials are believed to have been removed from critical petroleum infrastructure and were allegedly being transported for further disposal.
The operation highlights renewed efforts by security agencies to prevent the theft and destruction of oil and gas infrastructure, which authorities regard as a major threat to the nation’s economy and energy security. The three suspects are currently assisting investigators as the NSCDC works to establish their individual roles and determine whether other members of the alleged network are involved.
The Corps is also expected to examine the source of the recovered pipes and trace the intended destination of the materials as investigations continue. Pipeline vandalism remains a persistent challenge across Nigeria, with criminal groups targeting petroleum infrastructure for financial gain. Apart from causing significant economic losses, attacks on pipelines can disrupt petroleum operations and create serious safety and environmental risks.
The Adamawa arrests therefore represent another enforcement effort aimed at protecting critical national assets and disrupting the networks involved in the illicit removal and trade of petroleum infrastructure. The NSCDC has continued to intensify operations against vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage, urging members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying and dismantling such criminal networks.
The suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible prosecution.
