The Federal Government has named the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) wing of Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) after the mother of President Bola Tinubu, the late Abibat Mogaji, in recognition of her contribution to humanity.

Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said the late matriarch was a true champion of women’s rights and empowerment.

She spoke at the unveiling of the block of buildings at the centre yesterday in Abuja.

The minister pointed out that Mogaji’s commitment to women’s empowerment during her time was worthy of emulation, and could not be forgotten, hence the honour bestowed upon her posthumously.

Her words: “We are gathered here to celebrate and honour the remarkable values of gender inclusion, women empowerment, and humanitarian services rendered by a resilient matriarch, mother, and an amazon, the late Alhaja Abibat Mogaji.

“She served as a testament to the relentless pursuit of her unwavering commitment to the upliftment of women, and the extraordinary efforts in creating a more compassionate society, where no one is left behind.

“As we unveil the new name of the ICT block, let it be a symbol of our pledge to strive harder for the rights of women, to honour their contributions to our country, and to build a society where every woman and child can fulfil their potential with dignity and pride.”

Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, the minister added: “We pay tribute to her contributions and also recognise the vital roles that technology plays in transforming lives in a rapidly evolving world. Access to information and communication technology is no longer a luxury.”

Director-General of MBNCWD, Dr Asabe Vilita-Bashir, said the late Mogaji was known for advocating women’s economic empowerment, promoting grassroots development and inspiring future generations of women leaders.

Also speaking, President of Nigeria Market Women Association, Mrs Felicia Sani, extolled the late Mogaji as a great women mobiliser and an advocate for women’s economic empowerment.
