The Northern Awareness Network (NAN), on Wednesday, backed Defence Minister Bello Mohammed Matawalle, condemning recent protests allegedly orchestrated by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the name of an unrecognised group, “the All Progressives Congress (APC) Akida.”
NAN said that the protests, staged by discontented factions within Zamfara State, are part of a politically motivated campaign aimed at undermining both the Defence Minister and the federal government’s strides against insecurity in the region.
The Chairman of NAN, Salihu Sulaiman, in a statement, argued that the protests are problematic due to their ulterior motives disguised as grassroots movements.
NAN criticised the protests, describing them as lacking authenticity and calling “APC Akida” a phantom entity with no clear mandate or representation.
“It is imperative to recognise that these antics are not merely political posturing; they represent a dangerous diversion that threatens the stability and security of our beloved region and country.”
They commended Matawalle for his leadership in these security initiatives and acknowledged the significant support from international allies, whose contributions have reinforced the national fight against insecurity.
The group also called for vigilance from Matawalle and security forces, specifically warning of the emerging threat posed by groups such as Lakurawa.
NAN emphasised that this evolving challenge requires a robust response rooted in the rule of law, along with principles of disarmament, demobilisation, and reintegration to secure lasting peace.
NAN reaffirms its unwavering support for Matawalle, urging all stakeholders to transcend political machinations and work collaboratively towards a stable and prosperous Nigeria.
The group noted, “That true victory will not be marked by defeating adversaries alone, but by restoring peace and normalcy across communities.”
