Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for the completion of the headquarters of the National Library of Nigeria.

He argued that completing the national monument was vital for creating a solid foundation for the country’s advancement.

Speaking via a letter to commemorate the 60 years of existence of the facility yesterday in Abuja, Obasanjo observed that a fully operational headquarters would serve as a beacon for literacy and learning, a hub for cultural preservation, and a global symbol of the nation’s commitment to education and innovation.

While applauding the launch of “Lit for Life Africa Festival”, an initiative to rekindle the love for reading and creativity among youths, the ex-president stated that such programmes were crucial for shaping the minds of tomorrow’s leaders, and ensuring that Nigeria’s literary and cultural legacies endure for generations.

In his appraisal of the celebration themed, “The future of libraries in a digital age: Preserving heritage, expanding access and engaging youth.”
