The Nigerian Army has sustained its crackdown on economic saboteurs in the Niger Delta, recovering over 80,000 litres of stolen diesel during recent operations.
Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, disclosed this in a statement yesterday. He said troops of the Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted clearance operations in the region between November 18 and 24, 2024.
The operations targeted multiple locations, including Buguma Creeks, Iyalama/Bakana, Ogaji-Ama, and Asaramatoro Creek, yielding significant results. According to Jonah, over eight illegal refining sites were deactivated in Buguma Creeks, with dugout pits containing more than 25,000 litres of stolen products neutralised.
In Iyalama/Bakana, troops discovered a wellhead the criminals used as a loading point. They also seized cooking pots, receivers, and four wooden boats containing over 8,000 litres of stolen products. A wooden boat stocked with over 6,000 litres of condensate was also intercepted in the area.
Similar operations in Bayelsa, Delta, and Edo states led to further recoveries.
Troops intercepted a wooden boat carrying over 2,500 litres of stolen products in Bayelsa, while in Delta, over 2,500 litres of stolen products were recovered from a tank at Lamiel Hotel and Suites.
