The Nile University of Nigeria has awarded full postgraduate scholarships to its top five overall best-graduating students.

This was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dilli Dogo, during the institution’s 12th convocation ceremony in Abuja, where over 1,800 undergraduate and postgraduate students graduated.

The top five students include three perfect scorers: David Arungbemi (Computer Engineering), Chinomso Akuma (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), and Hassan Kabaju (Petroleum and Gas Engineering), all with a 5.0 CGPA. They were joined by Vahyalajah Kwaji (Petroleum and Gas Engineering) and Attahiru Yakubu (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), who secured the first and second runner-up positions with impressive CGPAs of 4.99 and 4.98, respectively.

Prof. Dogo lauded the students for their outstanding academic performances, emphasizing that the convocation ceremony was not only a celebration of academic achievement and brilliance but also a testament to the school’s commitment to preparing students for success in an interconnected world.

Speaking at the well-attended event, which featured dignitaries such as Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Kano State Governor Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, top government officials, and captains of industry, Prof. Dogo said the scholarship award is a shining example of Nile University’s dedication to nurturing and rewarding academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that the event showcased Nile University’s focus on developing graduates who are not only academically sound but also equipped with leadership, innovation, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in a competitive global environment.

According to Prof. Dogo, the university remains firmly committed to cultivating visionary leaders, pioneering entrepreneurs, and creative innovators who will drive transformation and progress in Africa and globally.

“Today, Nile University is no longer a municipal university but a truly national university, receiving large numbers of students from across Nigeria and beyond. This growing reach reflects the university’s strong academic standing and its broader impact on education in Africa.

“Graduates of Nile University receive both the Nile University certificate and the Honoris 21st-century skills certificate, equipping them with necessary skills such as creative thinking, problem-solving, communication, augmented reality, virtual reality, and entrepreneurship.

“This unique combination of academic knowledge and practical skills ensures that Nile University graduates are not only prepared for the workforce but also empowered to lead, innovate, and make a lasting impact,” he said.

At the event, three distinguished Nigerians were honoured with honorary doctorate degrees for their remarkable contributions to the nation. The recipients included Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, Chairman/CEO of AA Rano Group of Companies; and Dr. Emeka Offor, Executive Vice Chairman of Chrome Group of Companies.
