The police command in Anambra has arrested a suspected cultist, Miracle Mwakalor, and recovered an AK47 riffle from him.

He was arrested at Umubele village, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), announced this on Saturday while addressing newsmen in Awka.

“Police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, acting on credible information on December 6, 2024, by 2.30 pm, arrested one Miracle Mwakalor, male, 18 years.

“He is from Umubele village, Awka-South local government area and one AK47 rifle and one magazine were recovered from him.

“The operatives burst the criminal gang in their den during an evil debrief on how they want to commit havoc in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area.

“Mwakalor was apprehended but his other gang members escaped,” he said.

Ikenga said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led the operatives to an apartment at Ubuofu Awka, where they hid the recovered rifle.

He said that the police were already on the trail of other fleeing gang members.

The PPRO assured newsmen that further developments would be made public.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that recently, the activities of suspected cultists have increased in the state, claiming many lives.
