Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos Special Offences Court Ikeja, yesterday remanded Ezeagu Jennifer and Goodnews Imah at the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), over N56 million alleged fraud.
The judge ordered the remand of the two defendants (Jennifer and Imah) after they were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
They were arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy to steal, stealing, obtaining by false pretence and forgery. The prosecution alleged that the defendants and Nigel Odinaka Vitalis (at large), between May 11, 2024 and June 13, 2024, conspired to commit felony to wit; obtaining by false pretence the sum of N56,350 million, property of Patience Abel under the false pretence of investment in supplement business and supply from a hospital in Uganda, which representation they knew to be false.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the counts. The prosecuting counsel, Mr, Suleiman Suleiman prayed the court to remand the defendant pending their trial.
He notified the court that the prosecution listed 12 witnesses to call regarding the case and therefore urged the court to remand the defendants in custody.
But the first defendant’s counsel, Franker Umeri told the court of his client’s bail application, praying to the court to grant her bail, noting that she will always be available for her trial.
The second defendant’s counsel, A.U Enwerem also moved a bail application praying the court to grant him bail as he will be available for his trial. Justice Oshodi adjourned to February 12 and 14, 2025 for ruling on their bail application and trial.
