With roots reggae, Ola tells Afrikan stories

Ola Zion, an award winning singer, songwriter and producer, would stop at nothing to showcase his talent and accentuate his Africanness to the world.
 
Before now he was known for helping both upcoming acts and seasoned artistes to arrange and produce scintillating songs, until 2005, when the sound engineer cum producer amazed his fans and hit the music scene with his single, titled, Danger. Since then, he has remained on top of his craft dishing out songs that resonates the happenings in the society and proffering solutions to societal ills.

Testing the waters with his Afrocentric music that comprised Afrobeat, Afro-dancehall, gospel and Afro-reggae, the multi-talented artiste branched off to carve a niche for himself, when he came up with Afrikan roots reggae, a genre he described as a fusion of African rhythms and contemporary music.

Using a call-and-response technique, and chants that resonate the Nigerian and Africa rich culture in his some of his songs, Ola draws attention to himself and the issues of life, and also make his listeners that cut across different races of the world to sing and relate to what he is saying. His passion for storytelling through music is captivating and fascinating; this has made anyone listening to his songs to want to hear them again and again.

With this genre of music, he has become one of the notable black singers on the United Kingdom’s and European’s super high wave.

Reminiscing on his maiden single, the Afrikan roots reggae crooner and a UK-based multi-talented Nigerian artiste, said: “I wrote the songs, but the instrumental part belongs to Dr. Orlando Owoh. I wrote the songs based on the touching stories I got from listening to Dr Owoh songs. I was creative with the songs and they became struck with my listeners.”

With over 500 songs and about 100 albums yet to be released to the music market, Ola disclosed that his first official album was released in Nigeria in 2005 and that earned him an award for the production and the songs itself and the entire packaging.

As an award-winning music producer, Ola Zion has collaborated with numerous artistes, especially in Europe, lending his expertise to create chart-topping tracks and thrilling stage performances. His proficiency as an audio engineer ensures that every production is polished, vibrant and sonically immersive, further cements his reputation as a versatile and innovative artiste.

“It may come as a surprise to many people, including Africans that a lot of Europeans know very little about Africa; its people, heritage and history. To fill this void, I have to use music to tell the African story; showcase its plight and highlight the good things happening in the continent. I have to use music to do this, especially change the mindsets of the younger generation to know that Africa is not all about poverty, crime and wars. My huge fan following tells me that the people are embracing my narrative,” he said.

Pursuing this mission, the awarding winning act has made his music platform open for his fans and music lovers to freely download his songs. This is a testament to his commitment to sharing his craft with the world.

With his global outreach, Ola Zion looks forwarding to returning home to establish his studio, impact young acts and contribute to the Nigerian music scene, while he continues to push creative across boundaries.
