Trailblazing conservation scientist, Adebola Adeniji, from humble beginnings to inspiring success

Adebola Adeniji is a rising star in the field of conservation science, whose journey is marked by determination, resilience, and a passion for making a difference. Born in Nigeria, Adebola faced numerous challenges, including the loss of her mother at a young age and financial hardships. However, these obstacles only fueled her drive to succeed.

Adebola’s academic excellence began early, with her winning the Dan Agbese award as the best student in her Senior Secondary School Two (SS2). She went on to graduate with first-class honors in Ecotourism and Wildlife Management from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and later earned a master’s degree in Wildlife Ecology and Range Management from FUTA, finishing with a distinction.

Adebola’s research focuses on using machine learning, geospatial technologies, and artificial intelligence to model suitable habitats for endangered species. Her work has resulted in six scholarly publications in reputable journals and has been recognized with several awards, including the Idea Wild research equipment grant and the prestigious Andrews Fellowship.

In addition to her research contributions, Adebola is committed to mentoring and uplifting others. She has held various leadership roles, including serving as the Secretary of the Ecological Sciences and Engineering (ESE) Graduate Student Organization (GSO) at Purdue University.

Adebola’s ultimate goal is to empower African researchers to take the lead in addressing pressing global biodiversity challenges. She aspires to establish innovative research initiatives and mentorship programs that nurture emerging scientists with the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to excel on a global stage.
