NNPCL unveils PMCC for improved operations, production
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has introduced the Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC) to transform hydrocarbon operations and boost production.
In a statement, yesterday, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, revealed that the initiative driven by NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS) built on the success of the Command and Control Centre to enhance monitoring, operational efficiency and production within the oil and gas sector.
Soneye highlighted that the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s policy direction to revitalise the energy sector and drive national economic growth.
According to him, the PMCC serves as a unified platform for monitoring hydrocarbon molecules from production to export terminals, covering Joint Ventures (JVs) and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs).
He stated, “By consolidating real-time data from various operators, the PMCC provides a comprehensive overview of production activities, ensuring timely identification of anomalies, minimises unplanned disruptions and supports seamless operational continuity .”
Soneye noted that while it is equipped with cutting-edge analytics and integrated data, the PMCC empowers stakeholders to make data-driven decisions, as the system improves planning, resource management and risk mitigation, allowing operators to meet production targets while maintaining high standards.
He explained that the PMCC introduced predictive and preventive maintenance capabilities, ensuring the durability of critical infrastructure by identifying potential failures before they occur.
The centre, he added, fosters collaboration among stakeholders through secure data-sharing platforms, enhancing communication and problem-solving within the industry.
“The PMCC’s role in minimising downtime and optimising maintenance directly contributes to increased production and revenue. Under Mele Kyari’s leadership, NNPCL has achieved a production increase to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and is working towards a target of two million bpd.
The PMCC is integral to achieving this goal by driving efficiency and enhancing production capabilities.
“With round-the-clock operation, the PMCC is staffed with skilled professionals and uses cloud-based technology to facilitate seamless data exchange with both internal and external stakeholders. Its integration with the Industry-Wide Security Command and Control Centre further enhances the security of production activities, safeguarding assets and operations,” Soneye said.
He added that by bridging gaps in efficiency, collaboration and production, the PMCC underscores the company’s dedication to long-term growth and profitability in the oil and gas sector.
