The Kwara North Development Commission (KNDC) has threatened to sue Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over his recent announcement to fund Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) projects worth over N250 million.

The KNDC said it would embark on a legal war should the governor actualize the plan using state resources.

A statement by the group’s president and secretary, Abdullahi Mansuma and Hajia Zainabu Seko, respectively, described the plan as “an outright illegality.”

“We reject this move and declare it as illegal and discriminatory. This is an outright illegality, and we will challenge it in court at the appropriate time,” the statement read.

It alleged Governor AbdulRazaq of planning to deploy state resources to fund IEDPU projects, further describing the announcement as discriminatory, unlawful, and condemnable.

The statement raised concerns over the governor’s announcement at the recent IEDPU’s 59th Annual Conference, where he revealed plans to execute projects worth over N250 million for the union.

The statement queried the legality of such expenditure to be funded from the state purse, calling it reckless and condemnable.

“It needs to be clarified whether this fund is going to be personally sourced or from the state allocations belonging to all of us,” it wondered, asking: “The IEDPU is a sectional socio-cultural group. It belongs to only Ilorin people, to the exclusion of others. It’s at best personal to Ilorin people. So, why should the Kwara Governor go and pledge state funds for the completion of their projects?”

The commission expressed dissatisfaction with what it termed an imbalance in state governance, accusing the governor of favouring his Ilorin Emirate at the expense of other regions.

It demanded further: “How many such projects has the governor facilitated for the Patigi Emirate Development Union (PEDU), Offa Descendants Union (ODU), or Baruten Patriotic Agenda?”

KNDC called for a more equitable distribution of state resources, noting that the current trajectory could deepen the sense of marginalization felt by other parts of the state, particularly Kwara North.

The governor, at the IEDPU gathering last week, announced plans to fund a N250 million pavilion for the group.
