Ranger patrols improve security, restore wildlife at Taraba park
The ongoing patrols by rangers at Gashaka Gumti National Park in Taraba State were said to have significantly improved security and reduced illegal activities such as logging, mining, poaching, kidnapping, banditry, and cattle rustling in the area.
Observing a recent interaction with media practitioners, the traditional ruler of Gashaka, Dr Zubairu Hamman-Gabdo, commended the Africa Nature Investors (ANI) Foundation for its impactful partnership with the National Park Service (NPS).
He acknowledged the peace and security brought to communities surrounding the park, highlighting the renewed ability of farmers to work their lands and the return of wildlife previously displaced by poaching.
“We are happy with what ANI Foundation is doing at Gashaka Gumti National Park,” the Lamdo said, adding: “Farmers can now go to their farms, and the park’s lost glory is being restored with the return of some wild animals.
“Additionally, banditry is no longer rampant due to improved security, and many locals have benefited through employment opportunities.”
The partnership, as gathered, aligns with global calls, such as those emphasised on World Ecology Day, for sustainable land management and climate change mitigation.
