The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), Major General WB Idris, has received executives of the Association of Retired Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces (REMNAF), Zamfara State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Major Adamu Maikano (Rtd), at the Theatre Headquarters, Gusau.

 

During the engagement, Major Maikano (Rtd) sought the Theatre Commander’s support for a proposed four-day mediation and conflict resolution accreditation training for retired military personnel in Zamfara State.

 

This was contained in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Northwest OPFY, Lt. Colonel Aliyu Danja and made available to newsmen in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.

 

Acording to the statement, Maikano explained that the programme is designed to equip veterans with skills in mediation, negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, and peacebuilding, enabling them to continue contributing to peace and security within their communities.

 

He appealed for support in the areas of venue, logistics, accommodation, and welfare for the facilitators.

 

In his response, Major General Idris commended REMNAF for its continued commitment to national service, describing retired military personnel as important partners in promoting public understanding of military operations and supporting peacebuilding efforts.

 

The Commander emphasized that military operations alone cannot address insecurity and called for sustained collaboration with veterans and other stakeholders, particularly in intelligence gathering and community engagement.

 

He also praised the proposed training initiative, pledged the Theatre’s support for its successful conduct, and assured the association of the participation of officers and soldiers of the Theatre.

 

The engagement reaffirmed the Theatre’s recognition of retired military personnel as strategic partners in promoting peace and security.

 

It also highlighted the value of leveraging the experience of veterans to complement ongoing military operations through peacebuilding, community engagement, and public support for security initiatives across the North West.

 

The visit concluded with a group photograph and a tour of the Theatre’s Wall of Heroes, where the delegation was briefed on the sacrifices of personnel of Operation Fansan Yamma whose names are inscribed on the monument in recognition of their ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation since the establishment of the Theatre in 2024.
