Mrs Ajao, who is on admission at the renal ward of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, has for the past six years been battling with multiple ailments, such as diabetes, hypertension, haemorrhage, heart palpitations and damaged kidneys.
On Monday, December 8, her health deteriorated after she slumped in the bathroom, thereby hitting her head on the floor, and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, at night.
Her husband and former Education editor in the Vanguard Newspaper, Mr Wale Ajao, said though her health condition improved on December 23, all the doctors handling the health issues affecting his wife have, however, concluded that her two kidneys have been badly damaged, thereby making transplant inevitable.
Lamenting the sudden change of things, Ajao said it was sad that N30 million is required for the kidney transplant at a time of tough economic situation in the country.
He added that this huge amount is beyond the family, thereby making it mandatory for himself and his wife to seek financial assistance from all Nigerians at home and abroad.
“I want to beg all Nigerians to assist my wife in raising N30 million for a kidney transplant because my family cannot raise that kind of amount.
“My wife of 43 years has been a very decent woman and precious being that we always do things in unison and with love. Therefore, losing such a woman cannot be easy,” Mr Ajao lamented.
